Carrie's Story
I am so grateful to have grown up in the beautiful little town of Normandy Beach, NJ which is nestled between the Barnegat Bay & the Atlantic Ocean. I fell asleep every night to the sound of the Barnegat Bay lapping against the bulkhead outside my window. I woke up every morning to the briney scent of the sea and to the plaintive cry of gulls. I ran, swam, sailed, biked and paddled on and around the waters and beaches surrounding my home and continue to do so many decades later. Being outside, being active, and challenging myself athletically has given me so much joy, confidence and peace that I want to inspire other women to do the same.
The Inspiration
At 63 long-distance swimmer Diana Nyad came out of retirement and achieved her long-time goal of swimming from Cuba to Florida. She was inspired by Mary Oliver's poem, "A Summer's Day", in which she asks, "What will you do with your one wild and precious life?" This quote brings me to tears when I think about how I can make a difference in the lives of others and was the inspiration for the name ONE WILD LIFE. Hopefully I can inspire you to come out and live the "wild life" with me!
